The Conservancy has been tentatively awarded a $1 million grant, half from NJ Green Acres and half from Essex County’s Open Space Fund. Final state approval is pending. In 2022-2023, the SMC will work with the Essex County Parks Dept. on improving emergency access roads, repairing damage from Hurricane Ida and making infrastructure more resilient to extreme weather events, implementing the master plan for the Rahway Fairy Trail, expanding parking west of Hemlock Falls, upgrading the Dog Park and Wildflower Sculpture Park facilities, etc.
